The interactive Topo-guide gathers information continuously updated by the mountaineer community. It should not be viewed as a collection of separate files, even if the presentation seems like it is.
All the information is divided into three parts:
- the Summit: e.g. "Mont Vélan"
- the Route: e.g. "via corridors W"
- the Outing : e.g.. "Pierre Fridez, on 07 April 2002"
- Summit: The summit describes the final aim of the climb. In general, this involves the name of a summit in a geographical sense, but it may also be the name of a pass or refuge in some cases.
- Route: The route describes the path leading to a summit. A summit can have several routes (ridge S, Face N...)
- Outing: The outing describes completion of a route by a member of the community on a given date.

The information in this topo-guide contains the conditions encountered in the mountains as of a given date. Weather factors or other things are likely to make it change quickly.

Methods of use
You can browse the topo-guide or carry out searches. There are different methods of browsing:
- Browse the summit list. The known summits are displayed. By default, they are classified in reverse chronological order (the most recent first) of the linked outings. You can change the sorting criterion by clicking on the titles of the columns. A simple search filter is provided at the bottom of the page in the Additional information area. A click on the name of a Summit gives access to the linked Routes.
- Browse the route list. Routes appear classified in the reverse chronological order of the linked outings. A click on the name of a Route gives access to the linked Outings.
- Browse the outing list. Outings appear in the reverse order of their date of registration. A click on the name of an Outing links you to a detailed description.
- Browse the conditions. This displays the outings, but primarily provides their weather and environmental conditions.
- Browse the regions. Displays the region list and region maps. A click on a region will provide a list of its summits.
An advanced search filter on all summit, outing and route criteria is also available. Identified members can save various personal filters to speed up further searches..
